Guidelines & Help
Live! Code
When entering articles into the Live! system, formatting is controlled by "Live! Code"
Inline Formatting
Inline formatting allows you to apply particular styles to text in the middle of paragraph. You should surround the text you want to have a particular style with the delimiter from the list below. For example, text surrounded by [b][/b] becomes bold:
Some text might not be bold, while [b]some is[/b].
- Bold: [b]Bold[/b]
- Italic: [i]Italic[/i]
-
Strikethrough: [s]Strikethrough[/s]
Links
Links can be added by using the following code:
[Text to make a link|http://live.cgcu.net/]
Replacing the relevant parts.
Headings
Two types of headings are available - normal headings and section dividers. Section dividers should be used sparingly, the most obvious use being for "Snippet"-style articles.
- Normal headings: these are a single line starting with ^
- Section dividers: these are a single line starting with $
Special Boxes
Three types of boxes can be added to articles: images, quotes and downloads. Images and downloads require you to upload the image or file.
Images
Once you have uploaded an image, enter the following code on a line by itself:
[img "file.jpg"]Image Caption
Replace file.jpg with the name of the file you uploaded and Image Caption with the caption you would like.
Quote Boxes
A quote box is added with the following:
[quote "Quote Attribution"]Quote
You should not add quote marks the quote.
Downloads
Once you have uploaded a file, for example a PDF, enter the following code:
[download "file.pdf"]Description of file
Replacing file.pdf with the name of the file you uploaded.
Test Area
The area below contains an example of Live! Code. You may change the text and press Preview to see your changes.
This is some test Live! Code demonstrating the features.
Section 1
Standard Heading
Use formatting such as bold, italics and strikethrough sparingly. Try to give links descriptive titles, such as: the no-confidence motion against the DPFS.
Boxes float to the right and you should take care to position them apart, or they will stack badly. Images for quote boxes should ideally be no more than 200 pixels wide.
Any typos you make when entering code will probably make the raw code show instead.
Section 2
Use sections sparingly, when they divide up distinct parts of the article. Normal headings can be used to naturally split topics within an article.
Quotes should be used to highlight key parts of statements, or interesting soundbites. They can also be used to highlight parts of emails.
Downloads
Downloads can be used to provide original content or sound files for download, or to archive documentation on the web. PDF files produced by College or
the Union are likely to move around - their websites have changed many times over the last 7 years.
