Harris was bought up in Wales, before coming to Imperial College London in 2003 to read Physics. Other than this, relatively little is known about his early life.
Volunteer Involvement in the Imperial College Union
Harris showed a keen and early interest in the Imperial College Union, although his first attempt at elected office, as Physics Departmental Representative, failed. Early in the 2004-05 session Harris successfully contested a by-election for the vacant position of Physical Sciences Union Academic Affairs Officer. Soon afterwards, he was elected by Council to the Executive Committee.
In the 2005-06 session, Harris did not hold an elected position, but remained involved in Student Union activity.
Outside of student politics, Harris is also an active member of the Imperial College Mountaineering Club.
Deputy President (Education & Welfare)
His most notable achievement as Deputy President (Education & Welfare) was his campaign, strongly based on reliable research, to increase the minimum grant given to PhD students.
