The Social Clubs Committee (SCC) contains all of the clubs where the members are brought together by some shared interest or belief, that doesn't necessarily involve doing anything at all. This is where you find all of the religious clubs, clubs that are affiliated to charitable organisations, music appreciation clubs, and the much maligned Sci-Fi Society. There are normally about 45 clubs in the SCC.
The SCC has traditionally been mocked for containing random or "joke" clubs with less than the required 20 people membership, or with a life expectancy of 1 year. Some of its most active clubs include Art Soc (the largest club in the whole Union as of 2007), Islamic Soc, and Finance Soc, a club that famously sponsors other clubs and central Union events as they are so rich.
Also, the whole SCC is funded to the same level as about half a sports club, currently at around £3000. This is the lowest level of funding per club of all the CSCs.
The SCC Executive is made up of a Chair, Honorary Junior Treasurer, Secretary and an Assistant Treasurer. The latter position was set up in 2006 and is essentially a spy to try and improve the SCCs appalling spending efficiency. It awards one Social Clubs Award per year, which has a monetary value of £100.
