Shortlist of candidates announced for C&G Elections

Mar 06 2005 14:09
Guilds
The full list of candidates in the running in the 2005 C&G Elections has now been announced.
And they're off... with three contenders in the Guilds Presidential Race 2005.

The full list of candidates has been announced for the upcoming City & Guilds Elections 2005. This year, the races for C&G President and Honorary Secretary look set to be close, with 3 candidates running for President and 2 for Honorary Secretary. Also impressive are the number of people in the running for CivSoc , with almost all positions being contested, and most positions being filled. There was, however, a disappointing lack of people running for some departments' Academic Representation positions.

There are the following candidates for the central C&G Executive positions:

Re-Open Nominations is also a candidate for all these positions.

Hustings

Next to look forward to is the Hustings. There are two Hustings scheduled this year, both on Tuesday 8th March. The first, between 12noon and 2pm, will take place in dB?s, during which there will be free Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The second Hustings will then be an evening Hustings, taking place between 7:30 and 11pm, in the Union Bar, with free drinks being available.

Voting

Also, new to this year, following the success of trials within Imperial College Union, is the use of Online Voting in C&G Elections. Polls open at midday on Thursday 10th March, and close at midday on Monday 14th March.

A full list of candidates, along with their manifestos, can be found on the website?s Elections pages , or in the upcoming Guildsheet. If you have any queries regarding the elections, contact the .

That picture's weird, in an optical illusion kind of way, in that the flag is tilted but it actually looks like the box is crooked. My eyes hurt.

Mar 06 2005 14:56

Sid 4 President, please.

Mar 06 2005 15:54

Commendably polite campaigning...

Would you vote for any candidate who can't be bothered to submit a manifesto?

Just think about it...

And that picture is starting to make me feel quesy. Or is that just to much time spent in the union?

Mar 06 2005 16:28

I would just like to point out that Sid has had Guildsheet to produce at the moment. This means he's the one that'll be publishing all of the manifesot's. He has therefore been ensuring that it will come out, as scheduled, on monday.

Mar 06 2005 17:10

I gather that some of the submitted manifestos may not be on the web yet...

Ed,

It wasn't a reference to any particular candidate. There are others who either havn't had time to submit a manifesto (in Sid's case fair enough I agree), can't be bothered, or don't have any ideas.

Love,

Bob

As the person who has the task of putting up the manifestos, as well as photos, on the web, that as of writing, all manifestos that the Returning Officer has recieved and have been sent on to me, and they have one up. All other manifestos have yet to be submitted.

Mar 06 2005 20:43

And just to note, I have been doing it over the weekend (I'm in the C&G office right now).

Ah yes Sanjeev, the RON that didn't win anything.

In the words of Tina Turner (Almost):

"Simply Vote Ron,

Better than anyone,

Beating Hacks is so much fun,

So everyone please vote RON"

Mar 07 2005 13:28

If you choose to vote this season then choose well:

  • choose someone who delivers
  • choose someone who cares
  • choose someone who lives in C&G
  • choose someone who thinks for you and not themselves
  • choose ME

Vote Siddharth 'Sid' Singh for President of City & Guilds

Hmm... I sense a RAG/RON song along the lines of PF Project's "Choose Life" (from 'Trainspotting') here...

  • -

"Choose RON.

Choose a job.

Choose a career.

Choose a family.

Choose a ***king big television.

Choose washing machines, cars,

compact disc players, and electrical tin openers.

Choose good health, low cholesterol

and dental insurance.

Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments.

Choose a starter home.

Choose your friends.

Choose leisure wear and matching luggage.

Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase

in a range of ***king fabrics.

Choose DIY and wondering who you

are on a Sunday morning.

Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing

sprit-crushing game shows, stuffing ***king junk food into your mouth.

Choose rotting away at the end of it all, wishing you last in a miserable home.

Nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish,

***ked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself.

Choose your future.

Choose RON."

He Who Knows All

Anyone heard the one about the need to sack half the elections committee because the returning officer forgot to tell them they were not allowed to second candidates???

Oops, but then this is an election at IC, why am I not surprised???

Mar 08 2005 14:49

Elections Committee? I don't believe one of those exists in C&G. Please, enlighten me as to which regulation mentions the C&G Elections committee?

Mar 08 2005 15:08

The one you told the Hon Sec and Sports Officer they were no longer on during Monday night.

Mar 08 2005 15:16

That's not what they were told. They were told that, as management committee members who have seconded candidates, they could no longer involve themselves in the complaints procedure involving elections if a complaint were to be made. (And so far, I haven't received any, so its a hypothetical scenario)

Mar 08 2005 16:26

Does it say that somewhere?

I believe the case in the past it has actually been the case that people who have proposed/seconded _shouldn't_ vote in any complaints/appeals etc and choose not to - but that's not the same as saying they _can't_.

Mar 08 2005 18:25

So why are the 'elections comittee' (Which you claim don't exist) appear in CGCU minutes???

Mar 08 2005 18:26

Because the person who write the minutes doesn't know the regulations inside out? (Hardly a bad thing...)

Mar 08 2005 18:31

But she only writes down what people say, ie what you said, the minuter doesn't need to know the regs, just be able to listen to what people say.

Mar 08 2005 18:38

go to...https://www.cgcu.net/intranet/minutes/minutes-management-229-7227.pdf where it says "3. John said that Helen and himself were the elections committee". Anyone on management please let me know if this is correct as i need to adjust the minutes if this is wrong. Also while we're on a pedentry pedestal, management never officially agreed to let the voting go on until the 14th march. Exec agreed for voting to go on until the 11th and for management to have the power to extend if need be. the management meeting after the exec meeting did not stipulate a change in the dates....so :-P but i agree i was wrong to second people and i should have known not to. It was merely done on the spur of the moment to support my friends to stand for positions i think they would be good at and not to jeapordise the nomination process.

more insterestingly...

  • 12. Shields

Would these be the honours shields for the foyer, that every CGCU committee since the year ??1996?? has forgotten to do?

In which case:

1) are you backdating them

2) Can I have "Sam J Sharpe" on all of mine?

28. Dan L
Mar 09 2005 11:29

The shields have been made and signwritten. It's just no one has paid for them so they have been sitting in Croydon for the last 6 months! And we decided to put Samuel Sharpe on it ;)

29. Aaisha
Mar 09 2005 12:00

Actually, they have been paid for!

30. Sam
Mar 09 2005 17:51

grrrr....

oh well, it would have been funnier to have different permutations on each shield.

Where are they going to live now Mech Eng have desecrated the foyer by the clock?

31. Sam
Mar 09 2005 17:52

And what do you mean "it" ... there should be two at least with my name on...

Mar 09 2005 20:01

Just FYI - We'll be putting the shields up soonish - as soon as I find a moment to hassle mech eng and estates...
