What? No farce?!

It wasn't like this in my day...

Any info on the nature of the complaints? It shocks me that only 3, and resolved that easy/light.

Some thanks must be given to the returning officer for making that part of council possibly the least painful ever with his commentry.

Good to see another Guildsman make his way to the top.

A superb campaign if ever I saw one! Well done everyone...

Excellent, an all-male Sabb lineup. Just what Imperial needs to combat its masculine-dominated image.

[tongue firmly in cheek] It's not by design, it's just because Men are better at this kind of important stuff. Don't get me wrong though, women are good at important stuff to... like having emotions and babies...

But seriously - Women are under represented... unless you consider that:

1999 Tasha Newton

2000 Hamish Common

2001 Senthooran Ganeshwaranathan

2003 Mustafa Arif

2005 Sameena Misbahuddin

so, 2 in 5 presidents is female - 40% aint bad for starters...

Isn't Shama Rahman female?

not according to the Outlook Address Book

That is indeed a good point. I was sure someone said "she wasn't able to be here" at hustings. Must've been the other candidate (neither were there!).

[opinion]

Unfortunately I've seen very little regarding Shama's plans relating to Research Postgrads.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that research postgrads are best represented at the faculty level, by the existing research rep structure.

Mignon, the other DPGS candidate was present.

Mar 03 2006 11:07

Neither were at the hustings I went to (Monday lunchtime, JCR).

Mar 03 2006 11:32

Well given the scale of hustings publicity this year I'm wouldn't have been surprised if even some the candidates hadn't been aware they were happening!

Is it any wonder turnout was lower than last year!

Shama is a girl.

"Mr Shama Rahman" should probably update her College directory entry then:

Name: Mr Shama S Rahman

Position : Taught Postgraduate

Department/Section: Taught Postgraduate

Division/Department: Division of Neurosciences and Mental Health

Faculty: Medicine

Building: Sir Alexander Fleming Building

Campus: South Kensington Campus

E-Mail: shama DOT rahman AT imp

Amazing.

A SWSS candidate got more votes than an incumbent Sabb.

It's about time I ate my hat!

On the PG front, we only have DP(Internships and Resits) because COllege insisted that we take the money for it. I can actually think of better things to spend that money on, like Faculty based representation.

Mar 03 2006 20:30

Be carefull what you say Mr Tibbets, your hat would be particularly hard to swallow.

Anyone care to join me in a game of "Guess how many candidates next year will hire giant furry animal costumes"?

'Vote bunny rabbit!' 'No, vote gorilla!' 'No, vote flamingo!'

Maybe this could be extended to people presenting opposing arguments at council meetings too...

Mar 04 2006 13:33

Although the better plan for next years candidates would be to have substance to their campaigns. Those I spoke to were voting for JC because they new what his policies were as opposed to the others who just said 'vote for me'

Just because that might be the better plan, doesn't mean that's the plan they'll follow.
