Few Candidates for Guilds Elections

Mar 04 2006 13:22
Chris Jackson
Nominations have closed for the CGCU elections. But before a vote is cast the results are almost known.

The nominations for the executive positions within City and Guilds closed on Friday and it would appear that the need for an election is all but by passed.

The candidates are as follows:

President - Johnathan James

Vice-President (Activities) - Borja Sorda De La Pena

Vice-President (Finance and Societies) - Boon Leong Koh

Honorary Secretary - Nicholas Simpson

Academic Affairs Officer (Taught Students) - Sherin Chee, Alexandra Martinsson Dorff

Welfare Officer - Emma Persky

New Election is standing in all positions.

With only one post finding itself contested by anyone but RON it would appear that the announcement of results will be a slow news day for CGCU Media Group. However, for completeness the procedure of election is as follows:

Hustings - 12.30pm onwards in Db's - 9th March 2006

FREE KRISPY KREEME DONUTS for all Engineers and a chance to grill the candidates.

Voting Opens - 0001 Friday 10th March 2006

Voting Closes - 0000 Tuesday 14th March 2006

Voting will be online here

Hey, don't be so dismissive of me! I'm the ICU DPFS-elect, you know...

But many candidates for the RCSU!

Currently 5 (fully seconded) presidential candidates - thats one more than ICU managed and a full 500% more than CGCU...

Mar 04 2006 17:07

Loads for RCSU (or whatever it's called now) aswell. Although most not fully seconded last time I looked.

Mar 04 2006 17:12

Yeah, but the RCSU does have all the hacks from 2 faculties...

But it still has fewer members than CGCU. And most of the candidates are complete non-hacks.

Does anyone else sense the winds of change? A return to Imperial's true calling of science, rather than it's bastard offspring (that would be engineering)?

Depends whether Mr James gets his way and gives Jez over to CGCU, despite her being the presidential transport and inviolate mascot of RCSU

Mar 04 2006 18:20

Actually, she's *technically* presidential transport for nobody and mascot of nobody (except, perhaps, for RCS Motor).

Mr James, should he try to move Jez to CGCU, would need to change the constitution of the club (same to move back to RCSU).

Should he try, he is likely to find himself held hostage in one of the very large garages owned by ex-students, destined to act as a grease receptacle.

Interesting image that ;)

Mar 04 2006 20:21

Hang on, last month he was getting creamed, now he's getting greased, what is wrong with you all???

Mar 05 2006 11:35

Just to clarify... I'm Johnathan James (Chris... u spelled my name wrong), and I'm currently Aero President, running for CGCU... much confusion, as John James is not running for the position... and so I've yet to be pied in the face (we are 2 different people... and before you ask... I'm not schizophrenic!)

Mar 05 2006 11:37

Yes, Johnathan James is unlikely to be used as a grease receptacle by RCS Motor...

Maybe we should come up with a suitable nickname for you?

Mar 05 2006 13:08

Appologies Johnathan, I have corrected the article. I orriginaly published the correct spelling but then advised it was wrong so changed it, pity as I was right the first time!

"and a chance to grill the candidates"

Has Guilds run out of money for burgers at these events?

Sorry, no burgers yet, we'll be having donuts from Krispy Kreeme.

Hope this comment isn't removed!

I don't think grilling the candidates is entirely fair... or legal.

Mar 05 2006 22:55

Not entirely sure about the grilling idea... although it would be nice to have a good turn out, and a chance to answer a question or two. By the way, my friends refer to me as JayJay (typical nickname for someone who has a first and second name beginning with J), but as long as it's not offensive, I'm not bothered what you call me!

Oh... and no worries about the misspelling... there's much confusion as there is a Jonathan James as well as a Johnathan James (me) and John James within Imperial... there's probably more that I'm unaware of!

But it is certainly fun.... :p

Mar 06 2006 10:23

But John James also gets referred to as JJ...

Mar 06 2006 10:30

I think Johnathan James should be known as "NOTRON".
