Guilds Voting Extended

Mar 13 2006 18:56
Ashley Brown
After a couple of false starts, Guilds voting is open and extended until 15th March.
The ballot box is a relic of the past, but the farces continue!

In the absence of a good elections farce from ICU this year, it appears CGCU is doing a good job filling its shoes. With technical problems on Friday and data-entry problems over the weekend, members of CGCU were unable to vote for all positions.

Electronic voting is now working correctly and has been extended by one day, with the closing date now 15th March.

Despite the problems, turnout has been relatively high for contested departmental positions. For the Executive Committee positions it is difficult to tell there is even an election taking place, with barely any campaign posters up at all. The RON campaign is somewhat conspicuous by its absence.

This poor campaigning could be blamed on the lack of competition for the positions, however the highly contested RCSU elections have a similarly woeful amount of visible campaign material.

CGCU election results will be announced at the AGM on Thursday.

Woefull amount of campaign material?

Well maybe in MechEng but is that really surprising? Yesterday we had an elephant around campus, the VPA election is positively bitchy and the ROn campaign is one of the best in years. And theres more than enough posters (though some are a bit s**t).

Basically:

Scientists well we could tell you but your minds couldn't understand infinity.

The RON campaign is certainly high-profile. But walking from Huxley/Blackett (Maths/Physics) along the walkway to Mech Eng yesterday, there was barely any noticable publicity at all, except by RON.

Are you LifeSci? I understand there's plenty of material in the LifeSci areas...

Well, the scientists have been out in force at some point in the last 24 hours - the place is covered now.

Well done guys.
