And your President is...

A brief run-down of C&G and ICU election results.
James Fok - not impressed at having his photo taken

C&G and ICU election results were announced at Council on Thursday evening, which may have been one of the shortest Councils with content on record.

C&G Results

C&G elections saw a reasonable turnout considering the time of year, with 224 votes in total (approximately 5%).

Only one position was being elected, that of President. The results were as follows:

  1. Fok - 120 - Elected
  2. RON - 32
  3. Lau - 30
  4. Jezic von Gesseneck - 24
  5. Bhojani - 18

The three fresher candidates were unable to beat RON, however we hope this will not deter them from taking an active part in C&G next year.

ICU Results

Around 800 individuals cast votes, twice as many as previous summers.

The positions of CAG chair, RAG chair and Council chair all had only one candidate except RON.

  • CAG Chair - Radha Gadhok (448 to 143)
  • RAG Chair - Stephen Brown (444 to 164)
  • Council Chair - Danny McGuinness (465 to 155)

The DPFS election was a close race, with the final result coming down to just 14 votes.

Daniel Chowdhury and RON were eliminated in the first round (116 and 91 respectively). After reallocation, Jon Matthews took the election with 316 votes, Ed Hunt coming second with 302.

"Around 800 individuals cast votes, twice as many as previous summers."

Doesn't make a lot of sense. Do you mean one previous summer's elections, or many previous summers' elections? Or do you mean twice as many votes as were cast in previous summers (as it many summers but generally as opposed to specifically in elections). The lack of the comma suggests the latter but that doesn't make a lot of sense, as what else would people vote in?

That should have read "as in previous summer elections", but I didn't spot my brain wasn't working before 9am until after the article went up.

How amusing.

Well, with RON beeting all the fresher candidates it's nice to see common sense can prevail.

Never fear, I may well run again for DPFS next year...

That's if the position still exists...

I hear Mr Collins is intending to abolish the position along with his cull on the DPGS, so he can have CGCU and RCSU Sabbs...

May 29 2006 18:24

Sounds like an interesting proposal that should be considered seriously.

May 29 2006 18:54

Certainly. But firstly - is it even true? Could Mr Collins confirm this, perhaps? If so, then what about the PGs? College will probably not look favourably on the idea unless it fits with their plan for improving postgrad welfare.

Still, I am definately in favour of these plans and sincerely hope that it will happen next year.

Most PGs won't care if the DPGS is abolished or not...

The others will probably mostly be in favour of the abolition ;-).

I think we should have a show along the lines of "The Apprentice" on stoic next year.

Every 2 weeks Dave Parry fires a sabb, leaving just the one he thinks is most cost-effective.

It would be more productive to run 'The Apprentice' instead of the actual elections. However, who will be filling in for RON?
