The first visible stage of the Live! redevelopment has come to fruition, with the launch of a new site design.
The previous Live! design was launched in September 2001 and had been showing its age. The most pressing concern was the lack of accessibility, as it complied neither with recent web standards nor accessibility guidelines.
Discussions are given more prominence on the front page, also showing the date and time of the last post. Those readers using RSS can pick which sections to include in their feed.
More changes will come over the next year, with a richer format for articles planned, particularly for special events such as RAG week and elections.
Oliver Pell, who designed the previous site with Richard Tang, had the following to say about the new design:
"Five years ago, Imperial was thinking about pulling out of UL, ICU was considering whether to affiliate to the NUS, Beit Quad was a building site and the College was busy abolishing, merging and moving departments around left right and centre. Things have changed dramatically since then and its time Live! did too."
