The head of Bioengineering passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon.
John Lever

Professor John Lever, Department Head of Bioengineering, passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon, 17 September 2006.

Lever had been associated with the College since 1973 and the Deparment since it was set up in 1989. A well-loved lecturer, he was also an active researcher, with a plethora of papers, articles and book collaborations to his name. Outside his academic roles, he was a long-time member of the Editorial Board of the journal Heart and Vessels, and once Honorary Secratary of the British Microcirculation Society.

He will be much missed by collegues and students. In an email informing the department of the loss, a member of staff said, "There are no words to say how much he will be missed. We will all be thinking of him and his family in the days to follow".

There will be a condolence card from the Department available for signing in the Sir Leon Bagrit Centre.

John Lever's funeral will be held at 12:45, Wednesday 27 September 2006 at the Breakspear Crematorium, Ruislip.

Instead of flowers, the family have asked that donations be made to:

The John Lever Fund, The Old Centralians' Trust, c/o City & Guilds College Association, Room 1.20 Royal School of Mines Building, Imperial College, London SW7 2AZ, UK
