The THES ranks the top 100 world universities

The Times Higher Education Supplement's annual rankings list the top 100 universities in the world, giving them both an overall ranking and separate rankings in individual categories.

The previously announced overall ranking of 9th has been matched by gains in the individual category rankings, with Engineering - in the "technology" category - climbing one place to 4th in the world. Julia Higgins, the new Principal of the Faculty of Engineering, described the rise as "a huge achievement for all of our staff and students".

The "biomedicine" category saw the biggest gain, rising two places from 6th to 4th, with Faculty of Medicine Principal Professor Steve Smith saying "[This] proves that our research and teaching is getting better and better, and I would like to congratulate all our staff for this achievement and thank them for their hard work."

Imperial also rose in the third and final category, "science" from 10th to 9th.
