After many delays and a somewhat half-baked attempt at installing the new furniture into Da Vinci's, the majority of it is now in the bar and awaiting the return of students at the start of term. The solid oak tables and stools can be taken outside during the summer and appear to be high quality and hard wearing.
Accompanying the new furniture are several new advertising banners, which brighten the place up to some agree but also clash with the paintwork. A small amount of the furniture is yet to arrive, but the bar has now gained some character.
Deputy President (Finance & Services) Jon Matthews said he was "very pleased" that the furniture had finally arrived. It was not, it turns out, somewhere between the Gobi Desert and Shanghai as John Collins had previously suggested.
In other redevelopment news, the central core area is expected to re-open at the start of February, with the new lift being installed during March. Phase 2 plans have mostly been finalised, with a mezzanine level in the gym likely to be the next work to take place. More details will emerge later this term.
