Jon Matthews has won the election for GSA Chair in the re-run of last term's farcical election.

After the farce of the previous election for the Chair of the Graduate Students Association, which achieved a turn-out barely into double figures, the re-run has now finished with over one hundred votes.

At the close of nominations Jon Matthews was the only candidate, winning the election with 58 votes to 42 against RON. Abstentions increased the overall turnout to 111, nearly ten times higher than the first election.

A decision made last year means the GSA chair will move into the office of the Deputy President (Finance & Services), the same one Jon Matthews occupied last year. The office will this time be shared with the member of staff brought in to assist with representation as part of the GSA-restructuring.

I'm a PhD student and didn't see any adverts for the election and was never informed how I could have voted. In fact I'm sure nobody in my group knew about the election. How were we meant to vote! Very representative !

I was disappointed with the turnout but unfortunately the campaign time was when I was away from London for my father's 70th birthday celebrations, a trip I had planned several months ago and not one I could really re-schedule (one's father only turns seventy once after all).

I'm sure you poncing up and down the walkway would have enthused the electorate enough about the GSA to bother voting for you or anyone else for that matter.

It may have perhaps increased the RON count though!

I second this. How can this be called a democratic vote if almost nobody knew about it! Is there any possibility of calling for another, this time perhaps FAIR re-election?

You should have received emails from the ICU President on the 3rd, 20th and 23rd August about nominations, voting opening and voting closing.
