Farce has become almost interchangable with election over recent years and this term's election is no different. Voting has opened for the CGCU elections with little to no advertising to students. There are even candidates who have not been contacted about manifesto submissions with possibly serious repercussions for their election campaigns.
Currently it is unclear where the problems have stemmed from but with voting closing at the end of the day on October 30th time is running out for candidates and voters to have a proper election, even by the current trend of low standards. Also following the trend of elections past, very few to no places are contested in the faculty with students only facing RON - perhaps not the most daunting prospect known to man....
Positions in Faculty Unions and the Graduate Students Association are being contested alongisde positions on Union Council and the new Trustee Board. ICU elections face a similar woeful amount of competition, with the exception of the position of Undergraduate Medicine Councillor. Thankfully Felix has devoted much space to the elections, meaning at least some people might vote.
Voting opened at midnight today and continues until the end of Tuesday 30th October.
