The latest Imperial College Union campaign, One World Week, was launched today. According to the ICU website, the campaign aims to "capture the diversity of the students on campus and aims to channel it through thought provoking and inspiring activities".
Like last week's Healthy Living Week, each day's events surround a particular theme. These cover (in day order, starting today) gender equality, sexual orientation, religion and belief and disability, with the week ending with "Race and Internationalism" on Friday.
Tuesday features a Quiz in Da Vinci's at 8pm and there will be an after-party in dBs on Friday night, running right through from 8pm until 2am.
Another big highlight of the week will be International Night on Friday, an event in The Great Hall which will raise money for the Haiti appeal and The Prince's Trust. The night will be a showcase from a diverse range of students, including the following societies: Cypriot, Capoeira, Belly Dancing, Polish, Arabic, Japanese, Malaysian, West Indian and Indian.
Speaking to Live!, Deputy President (Welfare) for ICU described the event, saying: "One World Week is very important for raising awareness about equality at Imperial College. We need to educate about prejudice and make people aware about what is acceptable and what is unacceptable. We also need to make people feel that they can voice any concerns about equal opportunities issues and make sure people know they have a right to study, work and relax in a safe and accepting environment. One World Week gives us an opportunity to do all this and to bring everyone together in a celebration of how diverse Imperial College London really is."
Details of all events taking place over the course of the week can be found on Live!'s Event Calendar, which includes events being held by Imperial College, Imperial College Union and others.
