The start of the year saw the Student Photocard Scheme descend into chaos, thanks in no small part to the "bungling" efforts of the Univeristy of London Union (ULU). Now, the federal union's tabloid rag, London Student, is claiming that ULU has won "reimbursement" for the cost of delayed photocards.
Apparently "negotiations are still being finalised" but London Student believes that Transport for London (TfL) will be providing a hardship fund of £20,000 for distribution among those students "who have been most affected". As yet there is no indication of the process by which this money will be distributed. Some observers also questioned whether £20,000 would be sufficient. Many students have had to pay up to £100 extra in adult tickets.
New plans for next year's scheme are also being drawn up as part of the discussins. Once again the ULU muppets have been quick to say that the new processes will "ensure an improved service". Curcially however, re-introduction of self-issue (where by College Unions like ICU issue cards directly to students) is only a "possibility".
