DoC mafia under threat...

Dragon Slayer
No Computing candidates have yet emerged for the C&G / Faculty of Engineering elections.
Hamish Common and Dinesh Gansarajah - stalwarts of the DoC mafia

All imperialist regimes eventually come to an end. So it is with the Department of Computing (affectionately known as "DoC").

Not too long ago, the Union was dominated by figures from DoC. From the blundering (Dave Hellard) to the mummy's-boy-ish (Hamish Common), the department has proved itself to be, on occasions, more potent than the Medics block vote.

However, the C&G elections (the usual training ground of would-be DoC god-fathers) having no DoC candidates so far - and current Guilds' President, Mustafa Arif, ruling himself out for re-election, it seems that the DoC mafia is now a figment of history. The lack of interest in elections seems to have spilled over to DoCSoc and ISESoc - neither of whom have so far managed to get any candidates.

Possibly the only significant figure from DoC in the Union next year, may well be the ICU President. Sen Ganesh has confirmed that he is running for re-election against Idris Harding (Medic) and Stuart Davis (Maths). However, if Mr Ganesh is re-elected, he will probably be seen as a relic of by-gone era, rather than as the god-father of a new DoC mafia.

You just know that that picture will appear in a Sunday tabloid about fifteen years from now, when DG is some big Chief Exec of Enron II or something...

Actually, Dave Hellard wasn't from DoC, he was doing the Joint Maths and Computing course, given by the Maths department in association with DoC.
