The City & Guilds College Union Executive Committee today ordered the election for the Civil Engineering Society President to be re-run. Results from the election have not been announced, although those for the remainder of the Civ Soc committee are available on-line.
The decision was made in light of complaints regarding an e-mail circulated to the members of the Civil Engineering department promoting one of the candidates. This is against union election regulations. The Executive judged the violation of the regulations to be "serious, but not persistent." With an established precedent that only serious and persistent violation of the regulations is sufficient to warrant disqualification of a candidate the Executive was left only with the options of ratifying the election result or re-running the election. The issue was judged serious enough to have possibly influenced the result leading to the decision to re-run the election.
With scant few days left until the end of term, the Executive Committee decided that voting should take place on Thursday and Friday of this week. The decision could still be appealed to C&GCU Council.
