The recent Guilds Union AGM saw the presentation of the City & Guilds College Union colours for 2001-2002. Although the colours award reciepients were published online, the recepients of the Presidents' Award were not - mainly because I hadn't written my citations. So, after several people asked me who got them (why weren't you at the AGM?!) I've finally got round to it. Sorry, it took so long.
For those of you who haven't got a clue what this is about, the President's Award (formerly known as the Union General Award, or UGA) is awarded at the President's discretion to anyone he feels has made a "contribution". Basically I can give them to anyone I like up to 5 people, which is nice. Muh ha ha ha!
If there's something wrong with you and you want the gory details, have a look at the Colours Regulations.
Anyway, here's who got them:
- Barry Edmonstone
We (this year's Exec) didn't get a handover (don't ask?) so we ended up taking over last Easter. Right from the start Barry was the most enthusiastic member of my team and inspired excitement on just about evey Guilds project anyone could think of (not just those relevant to him as AAO). It was his energy that helped the rest of us, and me especially, develop our motivation to see the year through.
- Chris Christoforou
Chris is now an ISE fourth year. He was C&G Publicity Officer in his second year and hasn't held an official position since. However, for the last two years he volunteered to look after the office and selflessly played a pivotol role in the organisation of almost all Guilds events.
- Oliver Pell
In summer 2000, ICU hired someone called Sen Ganesh to build an Intranet for £5,000. The project was a flop. However, last summer Oliver decided to build a Guilds Intranet, in his own time, for free. That system, together with his ruthless efficiency have seen the managmeent of C&G clubs and societies work better than ever before. The Intranet in particular has left other parts of the Union envious (with its fantastic ability to instantly hightlight the legendary Finance Offie mistakes in a way that previously took months to find).
- Richard Roberts
Richard Roberts wanted C&G Rubgy to be a bit more active than it had been for the last few years. As Captain this year, he secured several thousand pounds worth of sponsorship from Walkabout Bars; dramatically increased the number of fixtures; and revived the annual tour to France (taking part in Europe's largest inter-university rugby tournament). Wow.
- Richard Tang
Richard has has also been involved in many Guilds activities. He generally "does stuff" but without telling anyone or trying to claim credit. In particular, he built the Internship Centre twice - the service that helps students find summer jobs just wouldn't have happened without his technical skills or the time he spends ringing up companies.
