Anybody walking past the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) building this afternoon around 12:20pm would have been bemused.
Standing outside the building was a cluster of unusually silent students, some of them smoking.
The reason: a fire alert. Bang in the middle of exams. 4th years were doing "Digital Signal Processing and Digital Filters" and 3rd years "Instrumentation". And right in the middle was what turned out to be a spurious fire alert. Of course, the place was evacuated and everybody herded out. The students displayed remarkable levels of self-control in keeping their apparent mirth to an absolute minimum and even refraining from passing each other answers during the enforced huddle.
That's the Imperial spirit for you. Students staying silent even when given a wonderful opportunity to cheat. Oxford and Cambridge students would never display such charming integrity. We don't even need mention UCL, QMUL and other UL colleges.
