Float Surfaces

One day before the Lord Mayor's Show, the college's float can finally be put together.
LMS co-ordinator, Shrenik Patel, celebrates the arrival of the lorry trailer

Tomorrow is the 675th Lord Mayor's Show and the college will be attending for the third consecutive year. The presence of the float, organised by the City & Guilds College Union, at the show was in doubt when the main constituent, a forty-foot lorry, did not turn up at the beginning of the week. Months of preparation by co-ordinator Shrenik Patel seemed to be in vain, until this morning.

A last minute change of plan involving a chat with Faculty Principle, Professor John Perkins, secured a lorry that was delivered early this morning. The bare lorry needs to be turned into a stunning float overnight. This is to involve banners, sound, lighting, flame machines, a birthday cake and Bo' as the centrepiece.

The float, celebrating Bo's centenary, will leave for the City of London early tomorrow morning. The show will start at 11am with a three-mile long parade snaking through the financial district of London. The show will be broadcasted live on BBC1.

There is still time for you to help or join in tomorrow.

Shock! They got it right ... no typing exams this year!

So can anyone fill me in? Why did it say "Ricardo" on the side - when I saw it on TV, I almost didn't realize it was the CGCU float.

And, while we're at it, why did it not say "No to Top-Up fees" on the side - after all, it would perhaps have been more noticed than the infamous full page advert that cost 31000 pounds. And it would have been for free...

Anyway. Congratulations to a nice-looking float, and congratulations for managing to get on TV this year!

Its Ricardo who gave us LOTS of money. Cant have a float without Ricardo plastered everywhere.

Well done Shrenik!!

Robert: for free! You know that just the entry fee for the show is several thousand pounds! That's before you start with the lorry, sound system, banners, other equipment, etc. It said Ricardo on the side because they sponsored it!

It was great to have so many people out in the LMS!
