Figures from December's Student On-line Evaluation of lecturer performance show a substantial increase on the turnout at last year's LEQs - perhaps unsurprisingly given the crippling technical problems suffered last December.
Average turn-out across the college was 38.4%, with the highest turnout in the tiny Department of Bio-engineering, where 67.6% of students filled in the on-line questionnaire. Engineering departments occupy the top 5 places in the turnout table.
Bottom place goes to Computing with only a turnout of only 20.9% and the smallest increase on the previous year. Concerns had previously been raised about the possibility of low turnouts in that department because students were unable to login to SOLE using their "normal" username and password.
This first trial of the new system has not been without its set backs, including ISE students once again being faced with a screen informing them that they are not taking any options this year, but overall appears to have been far more successful than anyone dared hope - despite the lack of "public" union support for the scheme this time. Union President Sen Ganesh said that the Union was "quite happy with the turnout", adding that "we are very pleased with the way we have been working with college [on SOLE]."
