The Imperial College School of Medicine Union (ICSMU) recretaional Boat Club have suffered a major loss, following an accident involving one of their boats. The boat has been written-off and a replacement will cost upt to £9000.
Allthough the ICSMU Boat Club believed the boat was insured the paperwork is mysteriously unavailable. It appears that insurance may not have been renewed after St Mary's Boat Club merged with that of the Charring Cross Medical School. At ICU's Finance Committee (UFC) this evening Etienne Pollard.uk, Deputy President (Finance & Services), said it was "one of the things that fell between the cracks during the mergers".
Lorne McEwan.uk, ICSMU President and Dave Parry.uk, ICU Finance Manager suggested transferring the money from ICU Boat Club. The main ICU club, which caters primarily for professional rowers, is due to buy a new boat this year. However, the proposal met with stiff resistance from Sam Sharpe.uk, Deputy President (Clubs & Societies). Mr Sharpe emphaised that the IC Boat Club "had been promised a new boat 5 years ago" and that it would be wrong for UFC to renage on that committment. The committee agreed to leave a decision to a future meeting by which time it his hoped that the insurance issue is cleared up and all options have been fully investigated.
