The Engineering Freshers ball held on 16th October 2003 was unlike any City & Guilds Union ball in recent years purely because of the sheer magnitude and ambitious scale of the event. The traditional dinner based event was expanded by having a lot more entertainments so more people could attend by purchasing ents only tickets. The dinner tickets had all sold out well in advance already.
The entertainments included a Casino, live bands in the Ante room, a giant bouncy castle on the Queens Lawn while the MDH and the Great Hall were converted into huge dance floors. In the Ante room, the Casino was initially inundated with students intent on gambling with fake money while the rest enjoyed the beautiful music provided by the two bands. Revellers also bounced away in the bouncy castle despite the cold weather and everyone enjoyed the excellent music on the dance floors till the early hours. President Patel commented "This is absolutely spectacular, a vision come true".
Despite some minor glitches like the bouncy castle being deflated due to an unfortunate accident at midnight, all in all the ball was a phenomenal success and was an enormous leap for C&G events. The enthusiasm by the new generation of guilds committee ensured that this was certainly the biggest C&G party of recent times and no doubt the freshers will remember it well too.
