I have been sailing around the world and today I ended my journey at Imperial. This was no coincidence; in fact, it was because I was told by a traveller in Paris that the President of Imperial College Union, Mustafa Arif, would be raising money for Sudan by performing some Johnny Knoxville stunts. I was somehow enchanted and so I decided to pay a visit.
After receiving some directions from an American tourist on Exhibition Road, I arrived at the Queen?s Lawn where the fund-raising event was held. There were not many people, but I noticed a few buckets filled with water, a few sponges and a poor drenched chap on a chair. I was not surprised when the event was called ?Sponge the President?. After a brief moment, I met Imran Sharaf who informed me that it was Islamic Society organised this charity event as part of its annual SAVE A NATION campaign. The price was £1 / 2 Sponge Hits and I did not hesitate to participate.
President Arif seemed to be in good spirit when I encountered him. He gave a smile to everyone who sponged him with cold water. Although the event was not well attended, it was the bravery, the commitment and the altruism touched the bottom of my heart. I must say, man of the world is Mustafa Arif.
