Having been a building site for the last year, students have seen the Tanaka Business School and new college entrance start out as £25m and now, finally, they are both open. The college entrance opened several weeks ago, although college did not give a notice out regarding this fact, only those who come the South Kensington direction would have noticed. However, the large empty space which is the college foyer has already been used for a recent ICU Choir rehearsal and also there are possible plans to use it for more musical events in the future, given that the acoustic is fairly reasonable. Live! has learned that one of the people in charge of the building were happy to hear the foyer being used, as they “didn't quite know what to do with it”.
Whilst the entrance has been open, the rest of the development, namely the Tanaka Business School, has remained closed as final preparations are done. Today marks the opening of the building for academic purposes, and many other events have be scheduled according to the official website. This reporter has noticed that the site's computer generated images of the building show that a few final adjustments/additions are required, however these should be completed by today's opening. There is, however, no evidence of the large flatscreens or stands that appear in the foyer where the choir was located. Time will surely tell the final layout of the building. A highlight of the building is that the main circular tube contains lecture theatres on all levels, sparking a distant change from the usual style which students are accustomed to.
The official opening of the building will take place on Thursday 24th June, when Her Majesty The Queen will perform the ceremony.
