Your View: The Good and the Bad

Apr 12 2007 10:43
Ashley Brown
The editor is in need of your help, as Live! searches for the good and the bad from the past nine months.
What's good, what's bad?

The Live! team need your help ? over the next two weeks we?ll be putting together a "readers' choice" showcase of your favourite content on Live! this year. This means you. Yes, you. Whether you?re a current student, alumnus, member of staff or some random visitor via Google we want to hear from you.

This is really important to us. It is quite simple to give us your feedback ? simply post (anonymously if you want) to the discussion below. If you feel you are unable to do this, then you can email or use the anonymous tip-off form.

Please let us know:

  • The content you liked the most
  • The content you liked the least
  • Whether you are a current student, alumnus, member of staff or a random visitor

The last point is optional, but we would like to split the readers' choice into readership types so its useful to have.

What do you mean by "content"?

When telling us your favourite content, you do not need to restrict yourself to just articles. If you found a particular discussion or specific video entertaining, let us know that too ? just make sure you include a link and a description of what it is you liked.

Why are we doing this?

There are two main reasons for doing this. The first is that deadlines for the Guardian Student Media Awards and NUS Student Media Awards are approaching and we would a like a showcase page for those, chosen by you, not us.

The second is that by knowing what you like (and what you don?t) we can create more of the good things and less of the bad.

So, get started by adding to the discussion now!

What about the Ugly? That's the one you are missing!

You can view all the articles published since August on the Advanced Search Page

The ugly is quite simply Live! under Internet Explorer 6 ...

New layout, looks shiny and good.

Live! reporting that Imperial joined NUS*, especially the whole "mini-site" thing for the Pro- and Anti- camps. Couldn't each have been given one page to put all their points on, rather than let numerous people have their own?

(*Actually, that could probably be changed to "Imperial joining NUS")

Random Rants and Snippets articles, always good for a laugh.

NUS Blog 2007 - rarely used (OK, internet difficulties and all that), a simple summary when everyone was back would have been easier.

Coverage of the Sabb censuring.

Elections coverage. Concentrate on the farce, not the candidates!

He Who Knows All: are you front-page watcher or discussion-page watcher?

Apr 12 2007 15:08

Both, I read new articles in the main sections and I keep up with the discussions too (the great feature of "latest posts" underneath the main stories helps).

Good: The NUS referendum mini-site.

Bad: Mascotry reports. Honestly, no one's interested but hacks, and hardly any of those.

And I am an alumnus.

I think the sub heading "What do you mean by content?" can more or less sum up the whole website.

8. Hmm.

Then clearly you are external. This is an Imperial/C&G student news site. If Imperial/C&G student news does not fit your definition of content then you're on the wrong website and should leave Live! to its intended audience.
