No Such Thing as a Free Lunch?

Feb 17 2010 02:31
Lawrence Weetman
Live! shows you how to get a free lunch at a whole host of restaurants in and around South Kensington, simply by printing off a voucher.
Yes, that's right. Join up with a friend and get some FREE food.

Yep. It's not news. But it's useful to students. There are currently a whole host of discount vouchers circulating for some of West London's most popular student haunts. Live! provides details of available vouchers that will get you some serious savings on a good night out.

As always, make sure that you read the terms and conditions carefully. It's always best to inform the waiter or waitress serving you that you have a promotional voucher at the time of ordering.

For restaurants that offer different take-away prices, the voucher usually won't be valid on the take-away prices. However, it's worth asking and it may even be that paying eat-in prices with the vouchers will save you money anyway. For two-for-one offers, the cheapest meal will always be the one that is free/reduced.

Zizzi

Nearest branch: Earl's Court. Also: Notting Hill Gate, Paddington.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, Sunday to Thursday only.

In this promotion you are given the chance to buy two main courses for just £10. Since a main course is usually around £8 or more, this is quite a saving if you can pull together an even-numbered group.

Pizza Express

Nearest branch: 7 Beauchamp Place. Also: Fulham Road, King's Road.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, Sunday to Thursday only.

This two-for-one promotion, in conjunction with The Times, is to celebrate the launch of six new dishes designed by Francesco Mazzei. You aren't just limited to those six dishes though as the offer applies to the usual Pizza Express favourites, too!

Prezzo

Nearest branch: Kensington High Street.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, 7 days a week.

This two-for-one Prezzo voucher from The Daily Telegraph is particularly rare as it is valid on Fridays and Saturdays unlike many of the others available.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

Nearest branch: Old Brompton Road. Also: Earl's Court, Bayswater, Notting Hill, Fulham Broadway.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, Sunday to Thursday only.

This offer gets you two burgers or salad, with fries, for £12. This might sound a bit much for a burger but they really are special and they're normally much more expensive, too.

ASK Restaurants

Nearest branch: Gloucester Road.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 18th March, Sunday to Thursday only (but not 14th March).

This voucher gets you a main meal for £1 when you buy any other main meal. It's not valid on Mother's Day, which this year falls on March 14th. Only one voucher per group can be accepted, however one voucher will cover up to six diners. If you buy the Spaghetti Amatriciana dish then ASK will donate some money towards a new kitchen at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Strada

Nearest branch: Earl's Court.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, Sunday to Thursday only.

Again, this voucher is valid for up to six diners and gets you two main courses (from a selection of ten) for just £10.

Caffe Uno

Nearest branch: Charing Cross. Also: Edgware Road.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, 7 days a week.

This one's quite varied, with a few different vouchers available. One will get you 50% off your food bill, one gets you £10 off your final bill and the other gets you a free bottle of wine.

Brasserie Gérard

Nearest branch: Kensington High Street.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, 7 days a week.

This little café offering what it boasts is "Simple French Food" has an offer exactly the same as that of Caffe Uno: 50% off your food bill, £10 off your final bill or a free bottle of wine.

Young's Pubs

Nearest branch: Kensington. Also: Fulham Road, Lancaster Gate, Notting Hill.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 25th February, from 5pm Sunday and 12-3pm & 6-9pm Monday - Thursday.

This is entirely different to the rest of the stuff I've found so far in that it's a nice little pub offer. £20 will get you two main courses and a bottle of wine to share.

Café Rouge

Nearest branch: Knightsbridge.

Voucher: Download

Valid: Until 28th February, Sunday to Thursday only.

This is another "£1 main course when you buy a main course at full price" offer. Not quite so snappy, but the £1 will be donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

TASTE LONDON CARD: 50% off at many restaurants!

If you miss all of the above offers, or if the cuisine isn't particularly to your tastes, then why not try the Taste London card?

The Taste London card gives you either two-for-one or, in most cases, 50% off at over 800 restaurants in and around London. The one thing I do suggest with a Taste London card is that you ring ahead to let them know that you'll be bringing a Taste London card.

The card costs a whopping £69.95 per year, but if you enter the promotion code "LOYALTY" at the checkout then you'll receive a £40 discount, meaning that you've got the 12 months membership for just £29.95 - money you'll save quickly if you dine out regularly.

To find out whether or not a Taste London card is ideal for you, you should register for their one-month free trial card, which is really easy to do.

It's not so often that we see so many of these offers at the same time, hence this article. Enjoy it whilst you can: most offers end 28th Feb.

Bon appetite!
