Exhibition Road Closed

Exhibition Road was closed on the evening of 7 July due to a suspect package in the tunnel between South Kensington station and the Science Museum.

Cars, pedestrians and cyclists trying to exit via the east end of Imperial College Road were diverted to other exits, with the cordon extending to the College side of the parking barriers. Access to or from College via South Kensington station required a walk around the outside of the campus to alternative entrances.

The road was re-opened shortly after 7pm.

A similar closure occured on 7 July last year following the bomb attacks on the London transport network, in that case leading to the controlled explosion of a briefcase.

Lai Scared of the Media

Incoming DPCS Eric Lai has revealed a fear of the media. Speaking exclusively to Live! he worried that he was "easily misquoted", before adding "I was elected to represent sports clubs". *

Raise Money for Sport Relief

Ethos will be fundraising for Sport Relief this Friday, with members asked to donate ?1 then complete 1 mile on a piece of gym equipment. Entries will be placed into a prize draw.

On Saturday an Imperial College team will take part in the Sport Relief Mile, starting at Blackfriars Bridge. Everyone is invited to join in - register with the team at http://www.sportrelief.co.uk/.

Building Work Beginning

There are definite signs of building work starting in the Union, with protective plastic on floors, doors and walls. Also protected are the railings on the right side of the ground floor staircase ... which will be demolished to make way for the new glass lift.

The ATM which appeared this year has also been removed and will return in a more integrated fashion when work is complete. The bar staff are no doubt looking forward to the machine repeatedly calling the police when it is reinstalled.

* Referring of course, to his election as ACC chair last year, not as DPCS this year.
