CGCU President James Fok gets promoted to a sabb .. well, a "sab" at least

Freudian Slip

The most recent edition of Reporter has promoted James Fok to the position of a sabbatical officer. Fok appears in a photo on a page about the union, with a caption of "Meet the sabs (sic)". The campaign for a CGCU sabbatical has been running for a while - does someone at Reporter know something we don't?

Media Block Vote

The media appears to have a growing vote on council, with the Felix Editor, Felix Comment Editor, Felix Clubs & Societies Editor, Live! Editor and of course the media group chair all having a place. Suggestions have been made that the media should try to sack a sabb a month, both for their own amusement and to have some news to report. Faculty Unions and CSCs with nothing better to do are invited to get in touch to strengthen the vote.

Where's Boon?

C&G Media Group are considering launching an interactive game, called "Where's Boon?". Guilds VP(F&S) Boon Koh seems to be highly sought after at the moment, but never in when people are trying to find him. The conversation "where's Boon?", "you just missed him" seems to take place several times on most days of the week in the Guilds office. The prize for the most successful player would be getting their claim forms processed.

College Competence

Yes, that heading is correct. They say old habits die hard, but aside from a problem in Aeronautics (of which details will follow), College seem to be fairly competent of late. Everything Live! hears of which looks like it will become a complete screw up works out fine in short order. This has lead some people to suspect they are up to something dastardly in the background...

Bureauracy Awards

The College's Graduate Schools have won a Times Higher Education Award for the support they provide to graduate students. They organise a number of courses of varying usefulness, however their speciality is creating bureacracy and paperwork for PhD students. For that, Live! is sure the award was deserving.

Questions for the Rector?

Wondering who made Bessemer pink? Or why the Southside rooms are too small? Maybe you'd like to know if the Rector has a grand plan as his time at Imperial comes to end? Student representatives will be meeting the Rector next week for a Q&A session. If you have any questions post them below and Live! will pass them on.

I want to know how much the Rector can bench press in the Ethos, he has been looking buff of late.

We should form the Media party. I vote Ashley or Mr Yearsley as party whip.

College are being competent because of the centenary. They can't afford any negative press, so I guess they've decided to, well, do very little and do it well.

A problem in Aero? Surely not.

Would that be the heating, the projectors, the blocking of access by the new Portacabins, the utterly farcical non-evacuation last week when Chem Eng was full of toxic fumes*, the fact that the department nearly invalidated the degrees of many people who had taken a year abroad by not entering them for the management modules that the RAeS and IMechE require them to take, or something else altogether?

Either way, I'm sure they'll spring it on us in due time...

Can I be "Secretary of Offence" in our new Media Party?

The Media Party:- The ones you can trust! :)

Also, there was no blurb about Fok, but there was blurb about me, and NO PHOTO OF ME. Damn you, Reporter.

Mine is next week :P

Rather than wasting time playing "where's Boon", why not split the VPFS position into 2 - so create a Treasurer of the exec (club treasurer) so the VPFS doesn't have to do so much. That way he only needs to be there way as much (I would have done this last year, but was too busy being VPFS to have any time to do anything else).

This would have other advantages like bringing more people into the core of guilds, the new officer would probably help the VPA etc
