Library Closed for reopening
The Central Library on the South Kensington Campus closed its doors to students at 2:30pm on Thursday in order to open again in front of a packed audience of Imperials top academic and support services staff later that evening. With live jazz music from Imperial College Students the attendees had a glimpse of the intended use of the open plan space which is suitable for functions and concerts. The Rector spoke of the hard work of the library team in creating a 'social hub' for Imperial College and said he was sure students would 'flourish' in the facilities.
'Knowledge' retailer on Campus
Blackwells, winner of the 2007 Retail Bookseller of the year, has opened a new branch on campus over the weekend. They will be selling books and stationary with special student offers and hoping to fare slightly better than the previously ill-fated Waterstones. In a more central location, Blackwells takes up the space left by STA Travel on the Sherfield Walkway.
Imperial College, London?
The new electronic signs at the Gatehouse on Imperial College Road are one of the first 'Welcomes' to Imperial College that many visitors receive. Perhaps the new Rector is less interested in maintaining the brand set up by his predecessor but somehow we doubt it.
Welcome back felix
Felix was quick off the block at the start of term, already having been distributed all over campus before Freshers' or returning students had arrived last Friday. The team seems to have taken lessons from the Live! Editor in terms of bad speeling and Grammer with mistakes in the sub-heading and caption of the first article. Live! wonders if Felix Editor, Jovan Nedic, is trying to remind students at Imperial that they are here to do real subjects and not humanities.
